2022-23 Education and Enrichment

The New York Flute Club sponsors a multifaceted program designed to include students of all ages and levels who study flute in the greater New York City area. We have been developing relationships with schools, teachers, and music outreach programs. Special events have included pre-concert workshops and demonstrations, opportunities for students to meet the performers, and career development seminars. In addition, we offer scholarships for recommended students to attend the annual flute fair free of charge.

Past event: Masterclass with Ebonee Thomas

Ebonee Thomas, second flute/piccolo in the Dallas Opera and assistant professor of flute at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, gave an inspiring pre-concert masterclass from 3:30 to 4:30 pm before her 5:30 pm recital.

Jessica Taskov was the masterclass coordinator.

The program:

Emily Leng: Enesco's Cantabile et Presto
Dahye (Annie) Jung: Widor's Suite for flute and piano, 1st movement
Courtney Conkling: Shulamit Ran's East Wind for solo flute

The three performers:

Dahye (Annie) Jung was a first-year graduate student at New York University, studying for an MM in instrumental performance under Soo-Kyung Park. She earned BM degrees in secondary education and flute performance at the University of British Columbia and a Royal Conservatory of Music ARCT diploma in piano performance.
Emily Leng was an eighth-grader from Princeton, NJ, and had been playing the flute for six years. At the time of the masterclass, she was studying with Tanya Witek and was first chair in her school’s jazz band and symphonic band.
Courtney Conkling, a longtime Long Islander, was completing a BA in music from Hofstra University in December 2022 following studies at the Crane School of Music (at SUNY Potsdam) and the Blair School of Music (at Vanderbilt University). She was studying with Jessica Aura Taskov.

Admission: Free to members. Non-member rate (concert included) was $25 general, $15 students/seniors.
